Unpacking the Idea of Being an Eco-Friendly Business
July 25, 2021
Many of the rudimentary concepts behind running an eco-friendly business are quite trivial and generally referred to as a “no brainer.” However, it can be quite a difficult feat to transition such strategies from pen and paper to company practices. The major contributor to the aforementioned is the financial offset, time and rather vagueness of what it truly means to be a sustainable corporation.
What does it mean to be sustainable? To the average consumer, being sustainable is to ensure that there are no environmental expenses incurred in turn for financial and social remuneration. However, it is fundamentally impossible for one to produce any consumer product without exploiting natural resources for raw production material and energy. In turn, it becomes evident that being sustainable is not to eliminate all environmental harm, but it is to ensure that the approach of the company’s practice incurs the most minimal harm to the environment. This can be managed and is currently being managed by environmental firms such as the ESG. Such governance ensures that corporations are environmentally responsible when they carry the capacity to do so. It also ensures that environmentalism remains a collectivist action whereby a global effort will mitigate pro-global warming factors such as our carbon footprint.
Consuming less when possible and using economically friendly alternative resources such as recycled products can be expensive. Almost all companies striving for year-to-year growth implement business models that run on expansion and being sustainable can be an antagonist. However, profitability can be managed and balanced in turn for a stable consumer number. This will ensure steady profitability while also ensuring that the company is maintaining a neutral or positive impact on the environment.
As time progresses, the consumers’ radars arounds being environmentally conscious is rightfully growing. There is a stark position in the industry that demonstrates the consumer’s interest in ensuring that companies are environmentally responsible. Government regulations are encouraging sustainability and many major tech companies such as Apple are pulling rather “clout-chasing” stunts with sales of their iPhone chargers to spread the message of being eco-friendly. Nevertheless, we truly believe that given the issues of being “sustainable,” such initiatives are highly justified as it protects the one Earth we have for now until Elon Musk sends us all to Mars.
Our take on sustainability in the current period
As a corporation, the responsibilities to maintaining a light carbon footprint is a progressive thought and any tangible difference can only be seen overtime. With Fuego, we are quite limited in the methodology that we can implement a smaller carbon footprint, as we simply do not exploit resources that contribute to the average corporation’s footprint. This includes unnecessarily large office spaces, unused equipment, and packaging. Speaking of packaging, we have come to understand that this is imperative in shipping and safely sending customers their merchandise. With the understanding that the aforementioned is necessary, we took the approach of sourcing 100% recyclable packaging for our merchandise. This is an effective way of ensuring there is no plastic wastage and that there is minimal contribution to the pollution of our green and oceanic landscapes. Furthermore, this imposes a minimal impact on surrounding ecosystems and wildlife habitats.
